General Information
All kittens go to their new homes at 12 weeks of age. He/she will be fully vaccinated with a Felovax F4 vaccine. This covers Feline Rhinotracheitis virus, Calicivirus, Panleucopenia Virus and Chlamydia Psittaci and will be done at 8 weeks old with a booster at 12 weeks. Kittens are wormed at 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks of age with Felex Plus All Wormer. Your kitten will also be desexed and microchipped before arriving at their new home.
A cat carry box will be needed to take your new kitten home. Putting your kitten in a carry box will ensure it is kept safe and wont be able to escape and cause havoc in the car.
Included with the cost of the kitten, new owners will take home a kitten care pack which will include Purina Pro Plan Kitten dry food, a Frontline Plus kitten pack, Kitten care bookleet, a small bag of Breeder's Choice kitty litter and 6 weeks free pet health insurance. Upon arrival at your house, your kitten will be fully toilet trained and weaned onto Pro Plan kitten dry food. I recommend and feed Purina Pro Plan kitten dry food and fresh beef or chicken wings. Prop plan Kitten dry food should be fed until approximately 12 months old and then pro plan adult cat can be given.
Your Bengal kitten once taken home will ideally be an indoor pet. Not only will this ensure it won't be stolen but will also ensure its safety. Cat's worst enemies are cars and other cats. As a qualified Veterinary Nurse I have seen many horrible and preventable outdoor injuries which have been inflicted by cars, dogs and other cats. This advice is very important as I am devasted when anything happens to my pets as they are part of the family and I love them very much. Yes cats love the outdoors and a great alternative is to keep them in a secure outdoor cat run which can be connected to the house so they can have the run of the house and outdoors. Thus a happy and safe cat! Bengal kittens can be trained to walk on a lead and harness. Many bengals love going for a walk and this keeps them happy and they don't mind being indoors the rest of the time. If you feel that you still want your cat to be allowed outside you must consider vaccinating against feline FIV and Feline Leukaemia Virus. These viruses are contracted by fighting with infected other cats. Also, you may want to continue with the pet insurance once your free period has finished as some car accidents can be costly and require big surgery.
Your kitten will be microchipped but it is a good idea to get your kitten to use a collar which you can attach an ID tag and the microchip tag. This will ensure your cat is returned safely and quickly if it is lost or injured.
Now, just a warning - Bengals have an infatuation with water! Toilet seats MUST be kept down and when running a bath, watch out for hot water. A secure lid on your aquarium is a good idea otherwise you will have a kitten swimming around too. Bengals also love playing in their water bowls so make sure it's a heavy base bowl and they can't tip it over. Bengals are very inquisitive and want to check and explore everything, so the same as children, be careful with oven hot plates, hot iron, hot water etc. When introducint your kitten to other cats and dogs it needs to be done slowly over a few weeks and always supervised. Cats are territorial and don't like new additions to the family. They will get used to each other over time. Sometimes this can take several months but be patient. You will get lots of hissing, spitting and growling but again, be patient and make sure all cats have their own space in the house so they can feel safe and calm.
